Description

This hearty and creamy potato broccoli casserole is the perfect comfort dish. Tender potatoes and broccoli are baked in a rich, creamy sauce and topped with melted cheese for a satisfying meal the whole family will love.


Ingredients

  • 500 g broccoli, cut into small florets
  • 700 g waxy potatoes, peeled and cut into 2 cm cubes
  • 100 g grated cheese (Gouda or Emmental)
  • 200 ml vegetable broth
  • 200 ml heavy cream
  • 200 ml milk
  • 70 g butter
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 pinch freshly grated nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste


Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and lightly grease a baking dish.
  2. Boil the potato cubes in salted water for about 8 minutes until slightly tender.
  3. Add the broccoli florets to the pot and cook for another 2 minutes, then drain well.
  4. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat and stir in the flour to make a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in the vegetable broth, milk, and cream until smooth and slightly thickened.
  6. Season the sauce with nutmeg, salt, and pepper.
  7. Place the potatoes and broccoli in the baking dish and pour the sauce evenly over them.
  8. Sprinkle the grated cheese on top.
  9. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

  • You can add cooked ham or bacon pieces for extra flavor.
  • For a crispier topping, mix the cheese with a few breadcrumbs before baking.
