Description
This traditional Turkish Bazlama is a soft, fluffy skillet flatbread made with yogurt and yeast. With its tender texture and golden crust, it’s perfect for serving alongside grilled meats, dips, soups, or enjoying warm with butter and honey.
Ingredients
- 500 g all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 packet (7 g) dry yeast
- 300 ml lukewarm water
- 3 tbsp plain yogurt
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and dry yeast.
- Add the lukewarm water and yogurt, then mix until a soft dough forms.
- Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the bowl and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Divide the dough into 6 equal portions and shape each into a ball. Roll each ball into a circle about 1 cm thick.
- Heat a dry cast-iron skillet or nonstick pan over medium heat.
- Cook each flatbread for 2–3 minutes per side until puffed and golden brown with dark spots.
- Brush with melted butter if desired and serve warm.
Notes
- Keep the cooked flatbreads wrapped in a clean kitchen towel to stay soft.
- Brush with garlic butter for extra flavor.
- Bazlama freezes well for up to 2 months.
- Serve with cheese, olives, hummus, or kebabs for an authentic meal.
