Description

These Cheesy Leek Balls are crispy on the outside, soft and cheesy on the inside, making them a delicious appetizer, snack, or vegetarian main dish. Made with fresh leeks, shredded cheese, cream cheese, and breadcrumbs, they’re easy to prepare and perfect for dipping.

Ingredients

  • 2 leeks, thoroughly washed and thinly sliced
  • 200 g shredded cheese (Gouda, Cheddar, Emmental, or your favorite)
  • 150 g cream cheese (or quark or vegan spread)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 100 g breadcrumbs
  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced
  • 1 tsp paprika powder
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Wash the leeks thoroughly and slice them into thin rings.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the leeks, shredded cheese, cream cheese, eggs, breadcrumbs, garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  4. Mix until all ingredients are evenly incorporated. If the mixture feels too wet, add a little more breadcrumbs.
  5. Shape the mixture into golf ball-sized balls and place them on the prepared baking tray.
  6. Bake for 20–25 minutes until golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  7. Serve warm with garlic yogurt dip, sour cream, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, lightly spray the balls with olive oil before baking.
  • These can also be cooked in an air fryer at 190°C (375°F) for 12–15 minutes.
  • Add chopped herbs like parsley or chives for extra flavor.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
